More About Phonics

Writing The Sounds

Encoding skills or spelling is an important component of the phonics process.  This should accompany our Blending At The Beginning program. Word dictation allows the early reader to make the sound/spelling connection. Follow our lessons in the guide with simple word dictation.  Do not begin encoding until the entire lesson has been mastered.  Remember depending on your child's individual progress, you may need to spend several sessions before completing a lesson. At first, you may want to emphasize each sound to help your child build the connection. Begin with easy three letter words with the sounds that have been mastered.  For early readers with weak or limited writing skills, you can use word cards to produce the sounds and make the words.
